Long Range Facility Planning

NESDEC has long been a leader in assisting districts in determining future facilities needs. In a single comprehensive study, NESDEC can incorporate all of the elements necessary for successful educational program and facilities planning.

In a long-range facilities study, NESDEC:

  • Analyzes community demographic data
  • Prepares long-range enrollment forecasts
  • Surveys existing buildings and reviews a district's education program, calculating facility utilization in relation to the planned educational program
  • Generates a problem statement and provides options as alternative solutions to the problem

The final report, a Long-Range School Facility Master Plan, includes information and data about the educational program and facilities and timelines for the proposed options.

Best Educational Use Studies

Knowing how best to utilize school facilities and house programs is always a high priority in a school district. NESDEC can provide important data and information about school building utilization, and can provide options to achieve optimal use of space. Frequently, school districts will embark upon a Best Educational Use Study as a follow-up to a Demographic Study in order to gain important insights for future planning efforts to improve education programming and school facilities.

Phased Facilities Planning

When a school district prefers to accumulate data and develop an understanding of issues impacting the educational program and facilities over an extended period, NESDEC's Phased Facilities Planning is a good alternative. Phased Planning is also a way to spread out the cost of a comprehensive planning project over time in order to make it more affordable for a school district.

In Phased Planning, NESDEC guides the district through a series of studies focusing upon:

  • Enrollment
  • Demographic factors
  • Educational programming
  • Building capacity
  • Option development

All of the separately developed study components can then be integrated into, and serve as a basis for, a comprehensive long-range planning document.
